Digitizing aperture cards has become standard practice for nuclear power plants or energy municipalities. Converting aperture cards to PDF or TIFF and linking the digital images to an Access database, custom made Excel form, or CSV file is a very efficient way of organizing your data.
Scanning aperture cards and creating a database is a specialized service and many power plants must outsource aperture card scanning. Another factor is how the indexing data can be extracted. More than likely the hollerith code data can be read or OCR’ed. Otherwise the data must be keyed manually from the headers or the images themselves.
